Frequently named one of America’s best places to live, Sugar Land has come a long way since its beginnings as a sugar plantation in the mid-1800s. One thing Sugar Land has retained is its friendly small-town atmosphere, with the added benefit of being located just 20 miles from downtown Houston.
Sugar Land’s enduring hometown charm is exemplified by Sugar Land Town Square, a shopping and entertainment district located just across U.S. 59 from Telfair, offering an historic small-town feel, captured by the classically styled Sugar Land City Hall and pedestrian plaza.
While Sugar Land Town Square provides the feeling of strolling through an historic Texas downtown, the nearby First Colony Mall offers world-class power shopping, with big-name department stores and other retailers.
The famous Houston Galleria, a trendsetting shopping mecca, is just up U.S. 59. A little further along are Houston’s world-class Museum District and Texas Medical Center. Drive a few minutes more and you’ll be in revitalized downtown Houston, home to several of the city’s pro sports teams, like the Houston Texans, Astros and Rockets.
With the main Telfair entrance located along U.S. 59 South, at University Blvd., residents can easily take advantage of everything the metropolitan area has to offer.
Great schools are a must for any new community, and Telfair doesn’t disappoint. The Fort Bend Independent School District is at the head of the class in a region known for its many outstanding suburban school districts. Telfair has three Fort Bend school sites currently planned within its boundaries. The community’s first Fort Bend ISD school, Cornerstone Elementary, opens in August, 2007. Students in Telfair also attend Sartartia Middle School and Kempner High School.
Providing for higher education is also planned, with the adjacent University of Houston System at Sugar Land offering Bachelor’s degrees, Master’s degrees and certificates in a wide variety of disciplines.
