TELFAIR BRIDGES INSPIRED BY HISTORIC BRIDGES OF SAVANNAH

The design of the community of Telfair was inspired by the southern charm and historic preservation legacy of Savannah, Georgia, and Charleston, South Carolina - an influence that can be seen on the two twin bridges now under construction in the community. Featuring graceful steel arches and detailed brickwork, these bridges are reminiscent of the ornate bridges built during Savannah's heyday as a major Southern port. At Telfair, these bridges will span New Territory Blvd. and University Blvd., carrying pedestrian and vehicular traffic across a scenic 70-acre lake and park system. Apart from pure function, they will also serve as high-profile community icons, signaling the unique character of Telfair. Planned to be completed by the end of 2006, the bridges will open with two lanes in each direction, and will have the capacity to become six-lane bridges as Telfair grows. The bridges will also feature pedestrian walkways across the grade level, with greenbelts running underneath. The large lake is also planned to be filled with water by the end of 2005.
